A Day in Esther: Chapter 5

ESTHER CHAPTER 5

Key Verses:

7 Then Esther answered, “My wish and my request is: 8 If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my wish and fulfill my request, let the king and Haman come to the feast that I will prepare for them, and tomorrow I will do as the king has said.”

Central Truth:

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” – Psalm 27:14

Esther shows a lot of patience and trust in Chapter 5. If I was in her shoes, the second the King held out that golden scepter I would have immediately told him of Haman’s plot to kill my people. But Esther has the wisdom to know that a hasty plan is not necessarily the best plan. She trusts that the Lord will work in His own timing. She doesn’t have to speed things up. She simply has to obey and continue on.

When in the midst of a conflict or a situation that requires a decision, I often find myself trying to fix the problem or making a decision as fast as possible. In my mind, the faster I do something, the faster it’s over. But I also find myself making unwise or foolish decisions because of this. Out of fear and distrust, I try to control things which rarely ever turns out well. Instead of stressing and trying to do things the way I feel is best, I should trust in God, knowing full well that he has everything under control. All I need to do is obey and continue on.

Today’s Prayer:

Lord, you are trustworthy and all-knowing. You know my anxious thoughts and my doubting heart. Please take my sinful need to control things and give me the strength and wisdom to let go. You have everything under control, Lord. Help me to remember that. AMEN.
